Meeting Minutes – 10/10/2000

Jastatos, Day 10, in the year 5100

[House Phoenix, Library]
The library of the House is a largish room, with the walls completely hidden by bookcases. A wide selection of reading material can be seen from a cursory glance at the shelves. Treatises on science and history stand next to ancient volumes on forest lore and magic. One rather extensive section seems devoted to arms and armor and the many subjects dealing with the arts of war. Locked glass-fronted cabinets hold rare tomes and fragile scrolls and even the odd clay tablet. You also see a spiral staircase, a carved red sandstone pedestal with an ancient volume on it, a trash barrel and a plain wooden table with a gold-trimmed modwir plaque on it.

"I'd like to welcome you all to our meeting. Thank you all for coming!

Since Jaialias is not here, Cynric ok'd me going ahead and torturing you all. So I'm going to move quickly! First the Treasury Report.

Heathyranne asks, "Geijon, can ye give us the full report please?"

Geijon says, "Alsae got a large donation o' a sword valued at 3 million fer a donation plus ah've been contining tae move our funds into endowment fer future growth an' stability."

Heathyranne asks, "was the donor anonymous? or can you tell us who gave it?"

Herry says, "that must be some sword"

Geijon says, "As its not'd, we've a 67.5 million endowment."

Geijon says, "Arnov, mah mistake on th' blade."

Geijon says, "Each month, 5% of our endowment kicks over, which accounts fer th' 3.3 flow per month."

Geijon says, "4 years agae, Phoenix was largely funded by membership since we had a tiny endowment an' even smallah flow."

Geijon says, "Was always our intention to largely make the endowment function as th' Houses money source, no matter our membership size, which at this point, an annual income in excess of 35 million does that."

Geijon says, "Bout it."

Geijon smiles.

Heathyranne exclaims, "thank ye!"

"Next I'd like to turn the floor over to Germinal for a House Hunt update"

Germinal says, "Ok, the Hunt Schedule is starting to wind down. The current schedule will be complete at the end of this month, so it's time to start setting up a new one! So, I'm currently very interested in new hunt leaders. If anyone wishes to be a primary, or backup hunt leader, please contact me at the end of this meeting. If you can't stay for th'whole thing, you can whisper me your information now."

This open field stretches from the southeast corner of Wehnimer's Landing. From here, a faint path can be seen heading to the northeast and to the west as it follows the high walls of the fortified town. You also see a temporal wind wraith.

You are feeling a bit uneasy as you walk around this part of the outer wall. Glancing up, you notice the reason for this apprehension. Several of the town militia are staring down at you from their guard posts high on the walls of the barricade. Though you see no weapons, you are quite sure that each guard has one handy and is well versed in its use. You also see a temporal worm, a large frog, the Braenna disk, a gas cloud and a temporal soul.

The path ends at this point, replaced by a rugged trail that winds through high rock walls. There is little in the way of vegetation here, and a cold wind from the southeast whips at your clothing. In that direction, you see the faint beginnings of a mountain pass. We've had some incidents lately of older people kind of "taking over" the hunt, even non members sometimes. So, here is the House backing you great leaders...they give you problems...you send them to us"

Germinal nods to Heathyranne.

Germinal coughs.

Germinal says, "YOU are the hunt leader, period. If a hunter has a problem with that, have 'im or 'er give me a call"

Heathyranne recites:

"House hunts are for undead only"

Geijon looks over at Heathyranne and shakes his head.

You ask, "huh?"

You say, "no. they're not for undead only."

Geijon looks over at Heathyranne and shakes his head.

Geijon says, "House Hunts are not undead only. They nevah were."

Germinal rubs his chin thoughtfully.

Germinal says, "hm, thought they were..."

Germinal shrugs. Heathyranne recites:

"Hunt leader should always be the leader"

"Actually, they are for the area specificied"

Heathyranne says, "the area specified on the schedule, if that is not undead, fine."

Geijon says, "Isn't a requirement. Nevah was. Neithah of those are. Th'purpose is tae provide opportuniy for fellowship an enjoyment."

Germinal says, "I've only ever assigned undead"

Heathyranne says, "the problem we're running into is people showing up with...slaves"

Heathyranne says, "so basically, stand firm, hunt leaders. Go to where you are assigned...lead your group...and if someone gives you trouble, feel free to not let them join you. They have a problem with that attitude...send 'em to me"

Geijon says, "Wasnae a discussion o' Undead or nae."

You say, "because in certain areas, there are both undead and living for one"

Germinal says, "Well, we usually do...it's up to the Hunt Leader to choose at the time of the hunt. As long as it's of the specified strength"

Heathyranne says, "the main point of this is we stick with the area...if it's a 10-14 hunt, I don't want someone switching to tree spirits"

The grass is paler green here, as though the altitude and dearth of sunlight have stunted its growth. Coarse mosses and lichens hug the ground and form powdery, white crusts upon the rocks scattered about. The steepness of the slope makes you breathe heavily under the exertion of negotiating it, and you see your breath condense in vapor clouds in the crisp air. You also see an enormous red-striped deathworm and a red-striped spinner.
