Meeting Minutes – 6/4/2000

Lumnea, Day 4, in the year 5100

[House Phoenix, Library]
The library of the House is a largish room, with the walls completely hidden by bookcases. A wide selection of reading material can be seen from a cursory glance at the shelves. Treatises on science and history stand next to ancient volumes on forest lore and magic. One rather extensive section seems devoted to arms and armor and the many subjects dealing with the arts of war. Locked glass-fronted cabinets hold rare tomes and fragile scrolls and even the odd clay tablet. You also see a spiral staircase, a carved red sandstone pedestal with an ancient volume on it, a trash barrel and a plain wooden table with a gold-trimmed modwir plaque on it.
Also in the room: (Lady Evialla who is scribing), Lord Geijon, Herry, Lady Heathyranne, Foogly, Galgore, Lord Cynric, Lord Waldo2, Graffy, Barquentine, Midgar, Jaialias, Thorin, Metadi, Hyssopp and Zaehlas who are all seated.
Obvious exits: north.

Geijon leans on Waldo2.

Geijon sits down, smiles and says, "Evenin"

Heathyranne just hugged Geijon and hugs you.

Geijon just hugged Heathyranne.

Geijon nods to Cynric.

You kiss Geijon.

Cynric says, "Evening."

Barquentine bows to Geijon.

The Symbol of Thought begins to burn in your mind and you hear Geijon thinking, "House Meeting at Phoenix begining shortly."

Geijon bows to Barquentine, smiles and says, "Evenin Barq"

Geijon and Graffy bash their forearms in greeting.

Waldo2 smiles at Geijon.

Barquentine says, "Eve, m'lord"

Cynric says, "seems we'll have all the officers here tonight."

Cynric says, "Evening."

Diwern says, "thought i should mabey come to one of these, being as im a member of the house and all"

Hyssopp says, "Hullo everyone"

Geijon says, "Heya"

Jaialias recites:"Ah vould like ta begin by thankin all o' ya fer attendin dis months meetin"

Jaialias points at Geijon, Hyssopp, Cynric, Waldo2, Heathyranne and himself, in turn.

Waldo2 lets out a cheer!

Hyssopp removes some aged parchment from in her bound scroll case.

Jaialias exclaims, "tis a record!"

Thorin nods to Jaialias and says, "Dat's six."

Heathyranne says, "a minor miracle"

Geijon asks, "Mmm..all six of us here?"

Hyssopp licks an ebony feather quill, rubs a pair of gold-rimmed spectacles and qquints.

Geijon says, "Jep Jep"

Barquentine blinks.

Thorin stares off into space and says, "Thot I'd 'elps, since dere's only five fingers ye gots dere."

Geijon asks, "Whar's Cryheart?"

Hyssopp frowns as she idly picks at an ebony feather quill.

Jaialias recites: "Ah vould like ta begin dis meetin vit a moment o' silence fer von o' da greatest adventurers dat 'as evah graced des lands""Lady Wanton Destruction vil be dearly missed by all o' us dat knew 'er"

Heathyranne places her hand on her black prayer beads.

(Hyssopp smile sadly as a tear floats from her cheek to the parchment.)

Shirkon raises his rich dwarven ale in a toast and "Ta Lady Wanton, lest we fergits", as he takes a drink from his rich dwarven ale.

Heathyranne removes a flagon of Kenar's Dropjaw ale from in her silk music satchel and raises her Kenar's Dropjaw ale skyward!

(Catthief bows his head.)

Metadi traces the lines of his symbol of Kai.

Thorin sighs, Waldo2 sighs and Heathyranne sighs sadly.

Jaialias recites:"A gentler soul des lands vil nevah see"

Shirkon gazes heavenward.

(Diwern comforts Hyssopp.)

Catthief just touched a blue Ronan sash.

Graffy nods.

Jaialias takes a drink from his murky amber ale. His eyes glaze over slightly and his face pales, and he is stunned!

Falicor says, "I may not have known her, but she has all of my respect"

Geijon smiles.

Jaialias recites:

"Afore ve proceed, ah could ask dat ve keep as silent as possible dis eve, ta 'elp move tings along at a bettah pace""Lady 'eathyranne vil now address us 'bout 'er Tease an ales"

Heathyranne recites:

"Despite a few hitches, Saturday's Tease and Ales was quite fun! Our guest speaker was unable to make it and will be rescheduled later. I, instead, told the tale of Spike the War Rat... Just trying to follow in that bardic rogue tradition of the family"

Geijon chuckles.

Metadi's face turns slightly pale as gulps and asks, "Some people got hitched there?"

Barquentine applauds and says, "And quite well done too"

Jormungand says, "spike! me 'members 'im"

Herry says, "a fine tale it was, too"

Waldo2 says, "I did not mean to kill spike, really"

Heathyranne recites:

"Tease and Ales will be held on the first Saturday of everra month at 5 elven in the evening. Come next month to hear either Tales of teras's founding or of the deed to the landing. Food and drink provided, smooches optional!"

Jaialias recites:"Lady 'eathyranne vil address us concernin da 'ouse funds"

Heathyranne recites:

"Remember...we cannae withdraw endowments...that is a fund that the interest generated is what is spendable. We are doing well, despite our house additions. Which is a good thing! We have no loans outstanding. Tis nice to know that phoenix members nae need to be borrowing. For those of ye more inclined towards the mathematical side... ye'll realize that means we are gaining more than paying out, again...another good thing. And we know hae 1872 members. Welcome to all new members"

Geijon says, "Kristing raised that from a few months ago."

Hyssopp applauds and Diwern's jaw drops as he applauds.

You hear someone applauding from the shadows.

Falicor says, "Wow, that is quite a bit", and Diwern nods to Falicor.

Heathyranne says, "another treasury item..."

Herry says, "Imagine if they all came to this meeting"

You hear the voice of Zaehlas say, "Wow"

Geijon says, "Closer to 720 active one's. Many of them fade away and we cannot delete them from th' registry"

Heathyranne recites:

"All House Hunt leaders should be reporting the gains they donate to the house funds to me. In order to report this accurately, I need a scroll sent to me. Send a runner to my home at heathyr@ewa.net (tis off Lumnis Lane, I swear)"

Geijon says, "Alsae if ye wanna find th' Monthly turnovah fer money, its 5%, minus th' monthly fees of our Endowment."

Heathyranne exclaims, "excellent job everyone! Keep up the good work please!"

Geijon says, "Also upon joining Kazarith donat'd 120,000 silvah"

Jaialias says,"at dis point Germinal vould normally speak 'bout da state o' da 'ouse 'unts"

Diwern exclaims, "how do i become a hunt leader?!"

Geijon says, "Contact Germinal. We always need hunt leadahs"

Diwern nods and says, "ahh"

Jaialias says,"ah 'ave a quick announcement afore ah turn da floor o'er ta Geijon. Lord Orinkar an Lady Dawners, 2 fine young 'ouse membahs, 'ave set a date fer der wedding. Congratulate dem vhen ya see dem around"

Jaialias says, "all yers Geijon"

Geijon asks, "Always gud, they gitin married here?"

Jaialias says, "vorkin on it. dey came ta speak ta me 'bout der veddin da otha night"

Geijon nods to Jaialias, smiles and says, "gud gud."

Metadi says, "Good? Interesting change of opinion there Geijon."

You shift your eyes to Metadi as you clench your fist and glance over at him.

Falicor asks, "There wasnt a session this sunday was there Geijon?"

Geijon says,"As ah hope ye know th' Protectahs haf begun active training agin, each sunday late afternoon, early evening for about 90 minutes.""Alsae expect th' protectors to do a few themed events. RP events if you will.

Since invasions are in short supply the Commanders of Protectors want to keep it exciting and sharp so they'll likely create storylines to facilitate its members and add a bit of free form to it."

Sunday Germinal, Kriztian, Shirkon an' Heathryanne had field manuevers within the Spider Temple."

Many of you will likely recieve initial training there in point movement scenario's as well as initial combat tactics along with enemy engagement and intelligence relays"

We're thinking of having a few unit team events for competition.

In the past Protectors was very stringent, we trained for invasions. "

It was grueling, tough and at times boring, but necassary. We're attempting from an OOC perspective to make it more enjoyable by adding new flavor to it and some of the best role-playing angles are player based.

"If it catches on, maybe others will grow and we can do full House angles, RP events, etc in bigger scale. Much like a troup does with Elanthian based storylines we work to create."

Falicor raises his hand.

Geijon nods to Falicor and asks, "Yes?"

Hyssopp nods to Geijon and exclaims, "Here..here!"

Falicor says, "I am a bit young fer the Spider temple, without spells that is. So what am I gonna do"

Geijon says,"Meetings for Protectors as I said are on Sunday afternoons, early evenings at 4pm EST"

"Protectors is for all ages. The Fire Drakes are members 9-19th. People of 20th level are given Battle Ready titles, which means they are ready for full combat situations, where you face death. Death is not, oh I died, I lost a deed, more an understanding of your dead, dead"

Heathyranne says, "we'll go to other places at times..show up fer the meetings and I'm sure some things can be accomodated"

Geijon smiles.

Falicor says, "Ahhhh, I see ye do the Manuevers in different places fer differnt people"

Jaialias nods to Geijon and says, "an vhen ya reach Geijon 'r me age, ya jes drink alot an bark ordahs"

Geijon says, "Atleast trying to grasp more of a realistic way of viewing it."

Zaehlas chuckles.

Geijon chuckles and "Ah've nevah been one to watch a fight."

Geijon smiles and says, "But we are very considerate of age groups, so not to worry."

Falicor asks, "So we under 20 are just goin ther to be shown what to do for practice when we are older?"

Hyssopp says, "But realistically in Elanthia..hmm..we clerics have the power to raise"

Geijon says,"We also have cut our units down to 6 or 7 member teams so they are smaller and more easily managed and so you can bond with your unit members."

"We teach grouping and combat tactics not only for invasion defense, but to make you all better, more knowledgeable and experienced hunters.

The Master is not the strongest, but often the most intelligent and those with wit."

"A brute is easily tricked, outwitted and outmuscled even if physical strength is lacking."

Falicor says, "I missed the first first meetong, now I look like a retard"

Jaialias says, "remembah von time Galenblackbard lost a 'and cause 'e dodged vhen 'e should o' rolled"

Geijon says,"Further Questions? It seems we've got yer attention, but if nae this will go out in Minutes so we think people will be excited. Most importantly about the role-playing aspects of the experience."

Hyssopp rubs her chin thoughtfully and raises her hand.

Geijon nods to Hyssopp.

Hyssopp asks, "Would it be possible to start off just within the house, Then expand it to other houses, After we have the basics down? And do you want wagglers and clerics and healers to attend this meeting?"

Geijon says,"Protectors is for the most part, all Phoenix with a few select scouts who are approved by Germinal as Wolverine Commander." Geijon says, "Catthief would like to speak on that for a moment, as a scout."

Geijon nods to Catthief and smiles.

Geijon nods to Hyssopp.

Geijon says,"We're using magic-users and healers differently then in the past I believe, but they are by far still welcome. We've adapted a more, one and all theme. Since the units are smaller we dropped the Guardian and Sentinel titles, but they are still incorporated, we just view them as additional skills since its your profession, not who you are as a person."

Catthief says, "Though I've 'ad rather a large amount o' information tae give tae Geijon recently, I'll try an' keep this brief..."

Falicor asks, "Were ye based sorta like the Gryphons?"

Geijon says,"Gryphons founded the idea of Militia's. Welan headed up the Wehnimers Guard originally and as a House we began a mini-one, which is the Protectors, a few other Houses adopted ideas and, or sent units to the Guard made up largely of their House, such as Silvergate and Helden as volunteer forces. Over time Tzigfried's doctrines of combat were adopted by most of them to various degrees. We've all built and changed it from time to time."

Metadi furrows his brow and asks, "Silvergate?"

Geijon nods to Metadi, and answers, "They were under Lurch, but didn't stay conscripted long."

Metadi nods.

Geijon says,"The player generated events within the protectors and role-playing branching were recently adopted, but my apologies. The Floor is Catthief's. Please give him your attention an' respect as a visitor."

Geijon smiles.

Catthief says, "Thank ye, Geijon."

Catthief says,"As Geijon was saying, the Protectors may have tae outline their own stories for the time being. However... Of late me own journeys have taken me down to the Vornavis area, and I've had many an interesting conversation with a few in the crypt."

Geijon nods to Catthief.

Falicor asks, "Crypt?"

Geijon asks, "Icemule's correct?"

Catthief says, "Aye."

Catthief says,"Vornavis has been quiet, up to a point, though there are rumors that the Baron's forces have been stirring up again."

Geijon says,"We had several units operating during the Illoke attacks. We're still gathering reports as of yet. Catthief is an intelligence officer or scout who watches th' lands, mah apologies fer not announcing him furthah."

Catthief chuckles.

Catthief says,"Thankee, Geijon

"Many here, some to do with the Gryphons, some to do with the Militia, are not enthusiastic about me bringing bad news many had thought was buried. Unfortunately, being the nosy scout I am, I could nae leave well enough alone, and I could nae ignore the Baron, after reading his history. This has led me to go on a few investigations in Vornavis...and, luckily, all is quiet.

Now, Geijon...I heard an interesting story in the crypt about a fortnight ago. Knowing the Gryphons and their cause, I disbelieved what I was hearing. Perhaps this story was just a fabrication of Baron allies... As I was hiding, I began hearing a conversation between two of the former guard members(I will give ye the names later, Geijon), discussing with others the fact that the Gryphons have allied with the Baron and are now fighting for his side..."

Hyssopp peers quizzically at Catthief and turns an inquisitive ear towards him.

Herry gasps as Geijon chuckles. Falicor says, "Yea right", as Thorin coughs and Barquentine blinks.

Catthief says, "Wanting tae get me information straight, I was wondering if you could(hopefully), debunk this rumor."

(Geijon searches the library for Dantrotic's book "How to be a really bad spy")

Metadi asks, "If I may?"

Hyssopp asks, "What?"

Midgar cackles!

Catthief says, "Anyone, please."

Geijon says, "Metadi or ah kin refute that rumah, sure."

Metadi says, "I think I know the source of this. And it's nae so much untrue as wildly exaggerated."

Catthief raises an eyebrow.

Falicor asks, "Isnt the Gryphon's primary focus to A: protect those weaker and B: defend against the Baron's forces when the tme comes?"

Geijon says, "Correct. Protect th' landin aginst any threat. Baron is just on' o' dem."

Midgar says, "How could two enemies such as them become allies. I doubt it very much."

Metadi says, "If my suspicion is correct, it stems from an action of ours' during the Bregandian invasion. Ye see, Hochstib's diplomat, a person named Holswort came to the Landing at that time. Tae stir up trouble and spy a bit."

Catthief nods and says, "I've read the brief meself.", as he mutters under his breath.

Metadi says, "The Gryphons were doing their best tae guard him from threat. We didn't want him killed or injured because that could give Hochstib a diplomatic incident. And thus, an excuse to invade us. It's nae all as cut and dried as it seems."

Falicor asks, "How long ago was this?"

Geijon says, "Largely propoganda that is being spread after this incident."

Hyssopp mutters politics.

Metadi says, "Yes, the Baron is our enemy."

Geijon says, "Months"

Catthief says, "About a year, if the Breg invasion is anything tae go by."

Metadi says, "But we have to play a bit of a balancing game to avoid giving him reason to invade. Since he has to at least appear to act by Imperial law and propriety."

Falicor says, "I understand the reasoning, but why others dont, is beyond me"

Catthief asks, "May I answer Falicor, Met?"

Geijon says, "Shonison was killed along with several others by membahs o' th' Golvern Star as well as Gryphons when they attack'd Holswort. So we were protecting Holswort, and that lead some to believe or say that they did that we were colluding with Holswort. Which isn't the case, we were acting tae safeguard the Landing in an indirect way is all."

Falicor says, "Actually it was a direct way"

Metadi says, "Thank ye for the floor. All yours' Catthief. Well, a more apparently indirect way."

Catthief says, "Falicor, since the incident in the crypt, I have been working to discover who the two ex-guard members were."

Geijon says, "These are yer ex-Guard membahs ye speak o', they were expelled by Draegar an' Tani for conduct unbecoming an' haf begun propoganda an' smearing techniques to discredit supporters o' th' landing, etc. as well as the Gryphons. But its late so we need tae wrap up. We kin discuss this more in th' futah an' we kin try an' maybe kom up wit somethin fer current events in minutes."

Catthief says, "Whether they were members of the "Wolves" trying tae stir up trouble, or whether they actually have association with the Baron, remains tae be seen."

Jaialias exclaims, "ah tink dis is motivation fer everravon ta show up on Sunday!"

Geijon chuckles.

Catthief nods to Geijon and smiles.

Jaialias says, "an 'ere ah thought ve vould 'ave a short meeting"

Geijon says, "Dantrotic an' Iceroleose haf a strong following also, a couple groups are likely link'd togethah who are darkah citizens o' th' cities. Armaxis an' Setzier haf been active in Icemule trying tae assist Thurful."

Catthief says, "If ye will have me...I would like tae request if Geijon would like me information periodically."

Hyssopp says, "I will nae be able to make it for the next 2 rest days..but I do plan to come."

Geijon smiles and nods to Catthief and says, "We're thankful fer what ye provided an' we kin surely continue tradin infermation."

Geijon says, "Germinal will be interest'd tae speak tae ye at length."

Catthief says, "It be rather sporadic, as I have no idea when I'll be back in Wehnimers, but I will do me best to return at the next House or Protector meeting."

Geijon says, "Th' floor is yers, Jai"

Catthief bows to Geijon.

Jaialias says, "da secretary gets ta speak agin"

Catthief says, "I'll respectfully take me leave now, m'lord."

Geijon bows to Catthief.

Jaialias recites:"A general announcement, if'n anyvon needs anythin addressed in future meetings, contact me afore 'and and ah vil be sure ta allot ya da appopriate time. Due ta time restraints, ah vil give von call fer people who need ta address somethin. Afore ah end dis meetin, does anyvon 'ere need anythin addressed?"

Jaialias says, "an nae Geijon, 'e can talk more den me"

Geijon removes an iron-banded cedar barrel from in his bearskin cloak.

Geijon is so thirsty, he just tried to pour a flask of aged Reiver whisky with both hands full.

Geijon gives Jaialias a firm punch and backs away from him.

Geijon takes a drink from his rich dwarven ale.

Thorin stares at Geijon.

Geijon grins and says, "Ah always talk'd mere, ah think"

Waldo2 smiles.

Geijon waves an iron-banded cedar barrel around.

Geijon shows Thorin his cedar barrel.

Geijon grins and asks, "want sum?"

Thorin exclaims, "Pass da whiskey!"

Geijon offers Thorin a flask of aged Reiver whisky.

Geijon exclaims, "Har Har!"

Storiana asks, "How did an Assasin's in the house?"

Geijon says, "gud stuff"

Heathyranne asks, "another assassin?"

Geijon says, "Thorin nae an' assassin, he sneaky tho"

Thorin takes a drink from his aged Reiver whisky.

Heathyranne says, "they coming for me again? silly council of light"

Geijon leans on you.

Storiana says, "nay, pray not...was wonder about the one that followed you "

You smile at Geijon.

Thorin says, "Nae unless ye's a troll 'r sumthin'."

Geijon reaches into the barrel and pulls out a flask of aged Reiver whisky!

Geijon offers Thorin a flask of aged Reiver whisky.

Thorin takes a drink from his aged Reiver whisky. Geijon says, "Un fer th' road"
